More About Oshawa Consolidated Operations Centre

The City of Oshawa required a new facility to consolidate disparate operations functions located throughout the city into one centralized location. The City acquired three properties adjacent to their existing Ritson Road Operations Centre with the intent of creating an Operations Campus that would house various divisions including Corporate Assets, Human Resources & Finance, Roads Operations, Parks Department, and Fleet Services.

J.J. McGuire was engaged as constructor by the City to undertake the complex renovation of existing facilities on the newly acquired sites. The project included:

  • Interior Renovation – 43,000 sq.ft. of office space to create areas for the administrative functions for each department, including open, co-working areas; closed office space; meeting rooms; areas for staff amenities; new change rooms and shower facilities; upgrades to the existing mechanical and electrical systems; and a new security system.
  • Interior Renovations – existing warehouse spaces to provide fleet maintenance; high-bay area for servicing garbage and other large trucks; an interior crane structure for moving large equipment; and areas for vehicle hoists, wash bays, weigh scale, parts storage, and workshop.
  • Envelope upgrades – replacement of existing windows and partial roof replacement
  • Extensive site works – regrading the site to remediate poor soil conditions, including utilizing existing soil to create a berm on site, and providing engineered fill suitable for supporting the heavy equipment on site.
  • Support facilities – A 17,000 sq.ft. salt dome, 20,000 sq.ft. of outside covered vehicle storage, new on-site fueling system, new interior roadways, pedestrian pathways, new parking areas and landscaping to complete the campus-style site.
