More About Peterborough City Hall Renovations

Peterborough City Hall is a vital public space for the City of Peterborough, offering municipal services to residents, housing council chambers, and providing administrative spaces for City staff. Originally constructed in 1951, the facility required interior renovations to accommodate accessibility upgrades within the three-storey building. The project included the addition of a new elevator, associated equipment, and supporting work to reorganize the main floor. A new clerk’s office, renovated washrooms, and upgrades to the second-floor boardroom also formed part of the project.

Significant work was required to create space for the elevator shaft and related mechanical equipment, including the removal of stairs, underpinning of foundations, and temporary shoring to ensure the building remain stabilized throughout construction. Penetrations through the roof supported the small mechanical penthouse required to support the elevator.

J.J. McGuire were the General Contractors for the project, managing the phased implementation and careful sequencing to maintain safe, on-going operations and public access to the facility.
