J.J. McGuire was awarded the contract for the press pit modifications. The press pit equipment ranged 50 ft below finished floor level and well above ceiling height. Our scope of work was to create the pit by excavation, shoring and form, and place the new pit. Also included in our scope was to open the existing roof and create a shell for the new equipment because it was very long vertically. The shell was made up of structural steel, metal siding and tapered insulated roof.

Description
DuPont Canada is located on Fairall Street in Ajax, Ontario. The Ajax site is home to the performance coating division which also includes a training centre. Due to the age of the facility and constant change in innovation and technology, the plant continues to go through building changes, requiring renovations, restorations, and new construction to keep up with DuPont's overall vision.

For several years, J.J. McGuire has been involved in renovations and upgrades to the Ajax site. DuPont has a very strict health & safety policy due to the dangerous chemicals that are used on a daily basis. We have excelled in this environment with constant co-ordination with sub-trades and DuPont officials. We must also follow our own health and safety policy and due to our commitment to safety, our policy meets or exceeds the expectations of the government and owners.

Project Completion
September 2008

Description
This plant is a waste processing facility located at the northeast corner of Highway 407 and Highway 27 in the City of Vaughan, Ontario. The building is very noticeable with (4) large silo's, with the large pellet silo located on the east side of the building. The plant receives municipal waste each year from the G.T.A. and the regions of York, Durham and Peel. The waste is processed in the plant and is created into fuel pellets and sold as an alternative fuel source.

J.J. McGuire were responsible for the complete construction of the building. The exterior building envelope was built up of a concrete cast-in-place foundation, conventional steel, metal siding, EPDM Membrane roofing, and an exterior canopy. The interior of the building has offices made up of flooring, drywall, steel studs and a mezzzanine that reaches into the processing area of the facility.

One of the most unique features of the building is the bio-filter structure which is located under the finished floor. It is used to filter the odours coming from waste brought in from the municipalities.
